Every year, the KNDV awards the Dutch Zoology Award to an author of one or more related scientific publication(s) in the field of zoology.
The prize (a certificate and a cash award of €1,000) is awarded for the best study in the field of integrative zoology. This refers to zoological research in which data from the molecular, cellular, organismal, population, or community levels are integrated as much as possible. This means that research at all these levels is eligible for the Zoology Prize, with the quality of the synthesis of empirical research or theory formation at different levels being an important criterion.
Authors of any nationality are eligible for the prize for publications resulting from research primarily conducted in or from the Netherlands. There is no age restriction, although the prize should be seen as an encouragement rather than a lifetime achievement award. Non-members of the KNDV are also eligible to compete for the prize.
The deadline for submissions for the Dutch Zoology Prize of 2025 is expired. The deadline for submissions for the Dutch Zoology Prize of 2026 is 31st of July 2026.
The Dutch Zoology Prize has an impressive list of previous winners.
